The Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine is seen as one of the great successes of the pandemic. It is credited with saving more than six million lives in its first year. More than three billion doses were distributed around the world. Nearly 25 million adults in the UK had at least one dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, giving strong protection against severe Covid.
But it was also responsible, in rare cases, for serious side-effects like blood clots in the brain - which could be fatal. Now, the financial scheme set up to support those injured by vaccines has been criticised as being βarbitraryβ, and the pay-outs called too low.
