Why the King's Australia tour nearly didn't happen

The King’s reign has been compromised by his cancer diagnosis, but this trip gives a real sense of him being back in business.

In February 2024, Buckingham Palace announced the King had cancer and all his β€œpublic-facing duties” stopped - on doctors’ orders. Back then, a trip to Australia seemed unthinkable. 8 months later, as our chief royal correspondent Daniela Relph explains, the King and Queen Camilla are embarking on a historic royal tour, with some changes to the programme.
