As Part of Black History Month 1Xtra once again celebrates its Future Figures. Future Figures is a way to recognise those members who are giving back to the Black community, and a time to celebrate the countless acts that are taking place up and down the country today by those who are helping to create the black history of tomorrow.
Founder and curator of The Cocoa Butter Club, Sadie performs as a vocalist and compere, and creates opportunities for Black people to be elevated and celebrated in cabaret/ performance.
Her legacy is creating productions and spaces "where the melanated are celebrated". She is committed to empowering and nurturing the talents of Black people.. and specifically, Queer Black People.
Sadie is proud to be a Lesbian, creating work that centres the LGQBTIA community. In 2018 her company The Cocoa Butter Club made a record breaking debut at Underbelly Southbank, with its highest attended BPOC audience show of the summer.
In 2023 Sadie, created The Black Burlesque School, to usher in the next generation of Black Burlesque artists; she also established Uk's only all Black Burlesque Show (which is in London) 'The Black Burlesque Revue'.
This November, Sadie is staging the inaugural Black Burlesque Festival, which will welcome Black Burlesque stars from all over the world to descend on London for a weekend, with shows, panels, masterclasses and meet and greet.
Recognised for the efforts to decolonise and mosturise performance, Sadie also facilitates workshops and university lectures about reclaiming and redistributing the narrative of what she calls racially, gender and sexuality 'othered' bodies.
