The 'hipster' making wallets cool again
How do you get people to carry purses and wallets in a nearly cashless society?
Do you still use a wallet or purse to carry cash and cards? It seems most people don't these days. Banking industry data shows the majority of under 35s make contactless payments regularly with a smart phone or watch. Nearly three-quarters of people aged 16 to 24 also pay that way, and older age groups are expected to increasingly 'go digital' when they spend.
So will we soon even need to carry a wallet or purse around with us, or is it a tradition that's on the way out?
For this episode of our 5 Minutes On podcast, our cost of living correspondent Kevin Peachey has been to meet Jack Millington, the 'hipster' tanner who makes wallets, and says there is still a market for them.
