Jon Bon Jovi praised for talking woman off bridge
Police have praised the rock star Jon Bon Jovi, and one of his colleagues, for helping a woman in distress. She had climbed over the barrier of a bridge in Nashville, Tennessee, and was persuaded by them to return to safety. They then hugged her and walked with her away from the edge. Jon Bon Jovi and his team were reportedly filming a music video on the bridge at the time.
What is the correct response if you witness someone in distress? How can you safely persuade someone to step back from a ledge?
Newshour's Nuala McGovern speaks to Nicky Perfect, a former crisis negotiator for the police, about what members of the public should do if they find themselves in a similar situation.
