Recording the songs of prison

Many incarcerated people turn to the arts for solace, crafting poems, songs and raps that are only heard by fellow in-mates. This was the case in the District of Columbia Correctional Treatment Facility - until musicians Aram Sinnreich and Dunia Best set out to produce and record music made by people incarcerated in the district. Weekend spoke to Aram Sinnreich and to Dasani Dawson, who has been in the facility for two years, and recorded her song 'Jail Call' thanks to the initiative.
