Our science correspondent Pallab Ghosh considers how the famous Altar Stone may have been transported 700 km in Neolithic times.
The findings of apprentice researcher Anthony Clarke have been enlightening.
His analysis shows that the famous Altar Stone at Stonehenge originated an incredible 700 kilometres away in the north of Scotland – and not south-west Wales, as many experts believed.
It's a massive distance – and the lengths taken are to bring it to what is now Wiltshire are all the more impressive given the transport challenges of Neolithic Britain.
