This is a 鈥減recarious moment for our democracy鈥�
A national study shows that a large proportion of Americans think political violence is justified. The project leader spoke to us following the attack on Donald Trump.
In the aftermath of the attempted assassination of Donald Trump Weekend heard from Professor Robert Pape of the University of Chicago. He led a recent survey into public views on whether force was justified to achieve political ends.
鈥淲e found that 10% of American adults agree that the use of force is justified to prevent Donald Trump from becoming President 鈥� so that equates to 26 million American adults, and that鈥檚 really quite a stunning number.
7 % - a lower number 鈥� would support the use of force to restore Trump to the presidency鈥hat鈥檚 18 million people 鈥e have really quite a radicalised set of wings here in our political system 鈥� these are two determined minorities
鈥t鈥檚 very important we now take this data seriously because both of these wings can now spiral 鈥� you can get each of them operating on their own but they can also start to operate in reaction to each other and that really is quiet a precarious moment for our democracy鈥�
