Banknotes featuring a portrait of King Charles will be issued from the 5th of June 2024. But as the King appears on our money, is cash disappearing from our lives?

Banknotes featuring a portrait of King Charles III will be issued from the 5th of June 2024. The portrait of the King will appear on existing designs - meaning the image you see of Queen Elizabeth will be replaced over time. But as the King appears on our money, is cash disappearing from our lives?

Our cost of living correspondent Kevin Peachey has been to Cornwall, a county with rich links to the monarch, where he's been speaking to Ange Harrison. She’s a fishmonger turned café manager in the harbour town of Looe. You have to walk through her café to get to a new banking hub - a shared premises available for customers of all the major banks. For this episode of our 5 Minutes On podcast, Kevin and Ange discuss Cornwall going cashless, and the effects on tourism and the community.
