A derailment has brought train services on the West Coast Main Line to a halt. Avanti West Coast, who run passenger services on the line between Preston and Glasgow and Edinburgh, said services north of Preston were cancelled on Thursday, and is warning people not to travel. To add to travellers woes, Northern said buses were replacing trains between Newcastle and Hexham and Carlisle, as a landslip in the Corbridge area has closed the line.
