Josh Kerr breaks 39-year-old British mile record
Josh Kerr broke Steve Cramβs 39-year-old record at the Diamond League meet in Oregon.
He led in the final lap and finished with a time of three minutes 45.34 seconds.
The 26-year-old raced against his rival Jakob Ingebrigtsen β the first time since Kerr won the 1500m at the World Championships last year.
He told 5 Live Breakfast that he could βfeel the presenceβ of Ingebrigtsen behind him but that he just wanted to press on.
Kerr overtook him with 600 meters to go, holding his lead to take the win.
βIt was probably one of the best mile fields ever assembledβ, Kerr said.
Fellow Britons Neil Gourley and Jake Wightman finished fourth and fifth.
