The growth of Indian stand-up comedy
Kanan Gill started out as a YouTube sensation with his popular movie reviews of Bollywood films from the '90s. His success on Netflix and world tours has continued to delight audiences globally. He is also an actor and an author.
As he embarks on the UK leg of a world tour with his show What Is This? he joined Nikki Bedi in the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Arts Hour studio who asked him why Indian stand-ups are becoming more successful internationally.
"One primary factor - ubiquity of Indian people. We have a built-in audience in a lot of countries," he says.
"The second aspect of it is Indian stand-up... it's been shaped by the sensibilities of the countries we go to... having toured everywhere it's exactly the same, everyone laughs at the same stuff," he says.
