Why does the fair come to Lincoln every April?
Every April thousands of people go to the fair on Lincoln's south common, but why does it occupy that spot on the calendar?
As historian Andrew Walker explains, the fair's been coming to the city around that time of year for centuries - and there used to be several different fairs, which in their time have indirectly been caught up in European wars and led to one or two unfortunate incidents for the local wildlife.
