26. Early Greenhouse Harvest

Your weekly seasonal guide to a successful allotment with Terry Walton, from his plot in the Rhondda Valley.

Down to earth gardening advice on growing your own fruit and vegetables with allotment gardener Terry Walton, from his plot in the Rhondda Valley.
On another showery April day, Terry checks the progress in the greenhouse where he has early potato crops, onion plants, celeriac, and beetroot plants making the most of the heat. He picks the first harvest of the season, picking an early shallot for his lunch.
Back outside between showers it's time to put the bean sticks out ready above the prepared trench ahead of the season's sweet peas. If your crops are suffering from the heavy rainfall of the season so far, Terry has advice on what to add to the soil to avoid forming leaves going yellow.
And another 32 peas are due to go in the ground to add to the 32 already under cover - Terry's crops are always an even number!

To plan your crops like Terry, search online for Terry Walton's Plotcast and you will see the Crop Calendar.
