22. March: Early Potatoes

Down to earth gardening advice on growing your own fruit and vegetables with Terry Walton

Down to earth gardening advice on growing your own fruit and vegetables with allotment gardener Terry Walton, from his plot in the Rhondda Valley.
It's time for the first early potatoes to go in the ground. Terry has advice on when to start chitting, when you know they're ready to plant and how to prepare the ground to ensure the best crops.
In the greenhouse it's time to sow some spring onions and radishes to add to the salad. And if you're growing sweet peas, its time to nip the growing tip to encourage the plant to bush out in preparation for planting out later in the spring.

To help plan your growing year you can download Terry's Crop Calendar, search for Terry Walton's Plotcast online.
