Weymouth FC donate proceeds to struggling Torquay Utd
On Saturday 2nd March, Weymouth FC hosted Torquay United, who announced on the 22nd of February that they are set to go into administration. Weymouth Club chairman Paul Maitland made the decision to donate Β£5 of every Β£16 adult away ticket to Torquay's cause.
Back in 2009, the 'Terras' themselves came close to going into administration, with debts of around Β£900,000, and even in 2022 they faced the prospect of going out of business.
Maitland recognised that, although the money may not represent a significant change in Torquay's fortunes, he hoped to foster a spirit of compassion and togetherness between the non-leagues teams attending the Bob Lucas Stadium.
Radio Solent's Steve Harris spoke to Paul Maitland, along with Chairman of the Torquay United Supporters Trust, Nick Brodrick.
