Crumbling Cumbria II - focus on Cleator Moor
The former mining town in West Cumbria has its share of empty dilapidated buildings. Rapid expansion during the Victorian period saw the village grow into a busy industrial town, but economic depression has seen many businesses close down. Now a number of commercial premises are owned by investors who choose not to develop them. But on the high street, Phoenix House is an example of how a historic building can be brought back into use for the community.
