Shaquem Griffin: the one-handed linebacker who made it to the NFL
Shaquem Griffin made history when he became the first known one-handed player in NFL history.
Born with amniotic band syndrome, Griffin suffered so much pain in his left hand that, by the time he was four years old, he attempted to cut off his own fingers with a knife.
He had surgery to amputate his hand and, from that day, he said βit helped him to liveβ. He would go out and play alongside his brother Shaquill, who now also plays American Football in the NFL.
Shaqueem fulfilled his own NFL dream, and spent three seasons playing for the Seattle Seahawaks and was part of the Miami Dolphins practice squad before announcing his retirement in 2022.
