The Lost Opera

The original musical score to Utopia, Limited has gone missing. And without it, a project to track down and re-copy all 13 Gilbert and Sullivan originals can't continue.

Check your bookshelves. Check your lofts. You're looking for a lost opera...! Gilbert and Sullivan wrote thirteen operas and operettas that are still performed today. But the music and lyrics might not quite be what was originally intended. Scores being used today often have mistakes and omissions because they’ve been miscopied.

The solution? Track down and re-copy the Gilbert and Sullivan originals.

But there's one problem that is stopping the project from being completed... one of the operas has gone missing. Utopia, Limited is one of the lesser known and rarely performed operettas. So, will it turn up?

In our latest 5 Minutes On podcast, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ arts correspondent David Sillito shares why the original musical score is crucial.
