A shortlist of six contenders has been announced for the 2023 Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Sports Personality of the Year award. So who are they, and why have they been nominated?

It's that time of year - not just Christmas, but something possibly even more glitzy...awards season. And for the last 70 years, some of the greatest names in sport have competed to win a highly coveted award... the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Sports Personality of the Year.

A shortlist of six contenders has been announced for the 2023 award. So who is in the running? Cricketer Stuart Broad, jockey Frankie Dettori, Lioness goalkeeper Mary Earps, wheelchair tennis player Alfie Hewett, athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson and golfer Rory McIlroy are the nominees.

Voting will take place during the show on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One on the 19th of December. Clare Balding will be there presenting, and has been taking us through this year's hopefuls, and why they've made it through to the shortlist. This is 5 Minutes On - the 70th Sports Personality Of The Year.
