Sudan war: 'I tell my child they're filming an action movie outside'
Rasha Said lives in Khartoum and doesn't believe a ceasefire will happen soon.
On Sunday the regional trade body, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, announced that the two warring factions in Sudan have agreed to open talks to discuss a ceasefire.
The Sudanese Army and a paramilitary force know as RSF, the Rapid Support Forces, have been fighting for control of the country since mid April and civilians have borne the brunt of the violence with 12,000 people killed and millions displaced.
Newsday spoke to Rasha Said, a resident of Khartoum, who said ''life there [is] very difficult''. She added that they can't go outside on the street or to any shops as ''the RSF are everywhere, they terrorise and steal from us''.
She does not think a signed ceasefire will go through. She tells her five-year-old child that they ''are filming an action movie outside because he keeps hearing shooting and bombs and aircraft and everything around us.''
