This episode discusses issues that some people might find distressing. If you are suffering distress or despair, details of help and support are available at bbc.co.uk/actionline.
Former Aston Villa favourite Lee Hendrie joins Kammy and Ben for this week’s Proper Football Podcast.
He takes us through his disastrous Villa debut and reveals which surprising figure consoled him while the game was going on. He tells us which manager would have eaten himself if he’d been chocolate and how he ended up playing for Nuneaton Griff. He also talks honestly about his mental health issues, how things almost became too much for him to bear, and what strategies he uses to cope with them now.
Meanwhile, Kammy recalls playing against Lee’s dad and explains how he ended up burning one of his team-mate’s football socks.
