Rabbi: ‘Antisemitism on the rise’
Exiled former Chief Rabbi of Moscow says anti-Israel mob, which stormed Dagestan airport, is the latest in a number of attacks against Jews.
The exiled former Chief Rabbi of Moscow says attacks against Jews have increased in recent weeks.
Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, who is currently the President of the Conference of European Rabbis, told Newsday: “Jewish homes are being marked with the Star of David. Synagogues are being attacked with Molotov cocktails…people are scared…We see this in campuses and universities, and we see…demonstrations, which openly call for the elimination and killing of Jews everywhere."
His comments come after the authorities in the Russian republic of Dagestan said 60 people had been detained after hundreds of anti-Israel protesters stormed an airport in the Muslim majority region.
The crowd stormed a runway and terminal buildings on Sunday, looking for passengers arriving from Israel. Video footage shows the crowd surging through security gates, some waved Palestinian flags.
Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt added: “These last weeks have shown us that there is a core problem…real antisemitism existing in many parts of the societies of the west.”
