Palestinian Israeli: ‘I’m confused’
Maria Rashed is a Palestinian citizen of Israel. While she rejects violence against all civilians, she feels others are tearing at her identity: "People expect you to stand and have a clear one-sided stand when you're literally caught in the middle."
For Maria, neither Hamas or the Israeli government represent her: "One can be Palestinian and not support Hamas [...] and one can be Israeli and still stand against the Israeli government," adding, "At the end of the day we are humans and humanity has failed all of us.â€
Israeli Arabs - many of whom prefer to be called Palestinian citizens of Israel - make up a fifth of the country's population.
