The Rafah crossing between Egypt and southern Gaza is expected to open today and allow through aid supplies such as food, water and medicines.

However, Mohsen Sarhan, from the Egyptian Food Bank, says bombing by the Israeli military is making it unsafe to cross into Gaza and the Egyptian authorities are keeping the border shut.

Mr Sarhan has been stationed on the Egyptian side of the border for eight days and says at least 120 lorries are ready to transport aid into Gaza. However, he says, on the other side of the crossing, "Bombs are dropping every minute less than one kilometre from where we are standing."
