Malaysian festival threatens The 1975 with legal action

The organisers of a festival in Malaysia cancelled last month after a controversial performance by the British band The 1975 have threatened the group with legal action. Singer Matty Healy criticised Malaysia's anti-LGBT laws - homosexuality is illegal in Malaysia and punishable by 20 years in prison - and then kissed a fellow band member on stage. The result was that the three-day festival was cancelled by the Malaysian government. On Monday, the company behind the Good Vibes Festival sent the band a warning letter demanding compensation. But does the festival have a case against the band? Edward Klaris, the managing partner at Klaris Law who also teaches media law and intellectual property at Columbia University, says the organisers may have an uphill battle.
