The four finalists in the 麻豆约拍 Essex Make A Difference Awards 2023 鈥淰olunteer鈥� category are (in alphabetical order):

Annie Arris, who works as a 鈥淟aughter Specialist鈥�. She goes into hospitals, schools and hospices across Essex and uses comedy, magic and music to brighten the lives of youngsters in order to take their minds away from any sickness or medical issue they may be experiencing.

Carly Burd, who grows fruit and vegetables in her Harlow allotment and gives them to those in need in the town. Carly was nominated before her allotment was vandalised with salt 鈥� a story which made national headlines.

Winifred Hayward, who is 90 years old and still volunteers one day a week at her Southend branch shop for the Havens Hospice charity. Winifred says she would like to keep volunteering for many more years to come.

Glenys Vallis, who arranges groups such as 鈥淔undangles鈥� to help those with dementia through music and dancing. She leads three support groups and four musical afternoons every month. Glenys says when it comes to people with dementia, 鈥渕usic helps to unlock memories they never knew they had鈥�.

The four finalists will find out if they have won at the 麻豆约拍 Essex Make A Difference Awards ceremony on 21 September 2023. Good luck!
