The Taliban authorities in Afghanistan have ordered beauty salons to close. They were one of the few places women could work in the country. A spokesman for the Taliban said the businesses should shut their doors within a month.

Beauty salons sprung up in the capital Kabul and other Afghan cities after the Taliban were driven out of power in late 2001. Nilofar Ayoubi is an Afghan activist and journalist now based in Warsaw, Poland. She spoke to World Business Report's Vivienne Nunis about what this decision means for women in Afghanistan.
