Boris Johnson and the 'devastating' Partygate report
The Privileges Committee says it would've recommended suspending Boris Johnson from the House for 90 days. He accuses the committee of functioning in an "anti-democratic way".
Boris Johnson is a politician who has often defied political gravity. But can he ever return to front-line politics after these conclusions? A report by MPs says the former prime minister deliberately misled the Commons over lockdown parties at No 10. The Privileges Committee said he deliberately misled the House, the committee, impugned the committee and was βcomplicit in the campaign of abuse and attempted intimidation of the Committee". The committee says it would have recommended suspending Johnson from the House for 90 day if he was still an MP.
Mr Johnson says the report marks "a dreadful day for MPs and for democracy" and accuses the Privileges Committee of functioning in an "anti-democratic way".
