Scientists and emergency officials say the wildfires and air pollution affecting large swathes of Canada and the US will become more regular in future, due to global warming.

Millions of people have been urged to wear masks, as some eastern cities have temporarily become the most polluted on earth.

President Joe Biden said it was a "stark reminder" of climate change.

Kim Connors is Executive Director at The Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre in the city of Winnipeg. His organisation helps coordinate the country鈥檚 response to the fires. He told Newsday: 鈥淎s communities and citizens we have to find ways to be resilient to climate change and to live with fire.鈥�
