Sudan Fighting: Caught in the Shrapnel

ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ News Arabic investigates Sudan's spiral into violence between the warring factions of formerly allied militia and reveals war crimes being carried out by both sides.

A ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ News Arabic investigation has revealed an 85-year-old British citizen was shot by snipers and his wife died of starvation after they were left to fend for themselves by the British Embassy in Sudan. The UK Foreign Office told the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ, "The Sholgamis" case is extremely sad. Our ability to provide consular assistance is severely limited and we cannot provide in-person support within Sudan.”

Only a fraction of Khartoum’s 88 hospitals remain open after just five weeks of fighting according to Sudan’s Doctors Union.

Using satellite data, mapping tools, and user-generated content by speaking to dozens of doctors the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ has also uncovered disturbing evidence of possible war crimes being carried out on medical facilities and staff by both sides. Allegations investigated include the occupation of hospitals and exclusion of civilians from treatment, attacks on functioning hospitals without prior warning, and the targeting of doctors through threats and kidnapping.

The Rapid Support Forces of Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo have denied forcing the preferential treatment of their soldiers. And the Sudanese Armed Forces did not provide a response to the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ’s findings.
