The Northern Ireland elections - What have we learnt?

The Irish Republican party, Sinn FΓ©in, which wants to take Northern Ireland out of the UK, has become the largest party in Northern Irish local government for the first time.

Northern Ireland's local elections have been seen as a referendum on the political crisis in this part of the UK. There’s been no devolved government in Belfast since, in effect, February 2022. For the first time, the Irish Republican party, Sinn Féin, which wants to take Northern Ireland out of the UK, has become the largest party in Northern Irish local government.

So why has Sinn FΓ©in made gains? And what are the wider implications for Northern Ireland?
