Holly Smale: ‘I don’t have a completely ‘normal’ experience of love’

Holly Smale, the bestselling author of Geek Girl, spoke to Anita Rani on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour about her experience of love and dating after she was diagnosed as autistic at the age of 39.

She spoke about why she had previously shied away from writing about love, because she didn’t think her experience was ‘normal’, and explained why she’s finally decided to write about it in her debut adult novel, The Cassandra Complex.

Holly also told Anita about the difference her diagnosis has made two years on, the fact she is ‘masking’ less, and how the shame she used to feel has begun to melt away.

You can listen to Holly’s full interview on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Sounds – it’s the episode from 19 May.
