Baaba Maal: βWe need to raise our voicesβ
Renowned Senegalese musician Baaba Maal said that world leaders - whether they are political, religious or otherwise β should βlisten more to young people, because they are the future and they are the ones who know what kind of future they wantβ. βAnd they have instruments like the internet to say what they want to say,β he added.
In May 2022, it Senegalese President Macky Sall stated that his country intended to regulate social media, describing social media abuse as βa real cancer of modern societiesβ.
Speaking to HARDtalkβs Stephen Sackur, Maal said that people in Africa need to raise their voices and that βgetting people connected is a very good thing for Africa and for the rest of the worldβ.
He also added that governments around the world, especially in Africa are βa little bit afraid to be told what to do and what not to do. But that has to change.β
