Helena Bonham Carter: ‘It’s a dirty word, isn’t it, ageing’
Award-winning actor Helena Bonham Carter joined Nuala McGovern on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour to discuss the pressures she’s faced as a woman in the TV and film industry, and why she thinks women reach their ‘prime’ later in life as they grow into their power.
She’s played everyone - from royalty like Princess Margaret in The Crown and the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland - to Bellatrix Le-strange, one of the iconic villains in the Harry Potter films.
Now Helena is taking on a very different role in the ITV drama Nolly, created by Russell T Davies. She plays Noele Gordon, who starred in the hugely popular TV soap Crossroads in the 60’s and 70’s. Helena also told Nuala more about Nolly and shared why she was drawn to play this unapologetic ‘trailblazer’. Listen back on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Sounds – it’s the episode from 1 February.
