The Art of Recycled Skateboards

Cat and Andy have made a business of recycling old skateboards. Drawing inspiration from their love of skateboarding, the pair create colourful, highly functional objects.

Partners Cat and Andy love all things skateboarding - from the rich skating culture and community to the vibrant colours of the skateboards themselves. It was from here that their business, No Comply, was born. The pair collect used and discarded skateboards from across the UK, taking something previously loved and giving it a new lease of life as a piece of beautiful handmade homeware. The company was born out of a passion to create work that was environmentally conscious and aesthetically pleasing.

We join Andy and Cat on the skate ramp of Comrie’s local skate park, which Cat’s mum and brother campaigned to get made. And from the barn in Andy’s dad’s garden, which they use as a workshop, the couple reveal their hands-on, multi-layered process, which involves stripping the boards, gluing them together and whittling them down into the final products.
