Gambia cough syrup scandal: Parents' stories
Two fathers, whose children died after drinking cough syrup, tell us their story.
Police in The Gambia are investigating the deaths of 66 children, which have been linked to four brands of imported cough syrup from Indian pharmaceutical company - Maiden Pharmaceuticals.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has said the pharmaceutical company failed to provide guarantees about the safety of the cough syrups.
It has issued a global alert warning they could be linked to acute kidney injuries following the children's deaths in July, August and September.
The Indian government is investigating the situation. The firm has not responded to a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ request for comment.
Gambian President,Β Adama Barrow said that the authorities would "leave no stone unturned" in the investigation.
There are growing calls for the resignation of Health Minister Dr Ahmadou Lamin Samateh, along with the prosecution of the importers of the drugs into the country.
