Teen mental health: how a Zimbabwean teenager is using social media for mental health
At 14 years old, Laura Nachipo saw a classmate in the throes of self-harm. She was able to quickly intervene to save her classmate’s life, and so began her journey into mental health advocacy. According to UNICEF, suicide is the second-leading cause of death among young people in Zimbabwe where social media is said to cause anxiety especially for teenagers. Together with Create Zim, a Zimbabwe-based mental health organisation, Laura is turning this narrative around through dance therapy and other methods in promoting mental health. The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s Pauline Odhiambo reports.
