The final walk with my guide dog

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ correspondent Sean Dilley and his guide dog Sammy have been everywhere together. But now it’s time for Sammy to retire and hang up his harness for good.

For more than eight years they’ve been inseparable. Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ correspondent Sean Dilley and his guide dog Sammy have been everywhere together, from television studios, to the High Court, to the local coffee shop.

But now it’s time for Sammy to retire and hang up his harness for the last time. It’s an emotional day for any guide dog user, but it’s particularly tough for Sean who now faces a two year wait for another dog. That’s because of a shortage of service animals caused by the pandemic, when the breeding programme was paused and new puppies couldn’t be socialised in crowded places.

Before heading off for his well-earned retirement, Sammy goes for one last walk with Sean. This is 5 Minutes On...the final day of their special partnership.
