Edward Enninful - the man in Vogue defining fashion

Amol Rajan talks to the teenage asylum seeker from Ghana who became the editor of British Vogue.

Edward Enninful was 13 when his family arrived in London, seeking asylum from the political unrest in Ghana in the mid 1980s. Three years later, he was spotted on the underground by the stylist Simon Foxton, who was looking for potential models. And so began his career in fashion. On his way to the top job - editor of British Vogue - his father threw him out of the family home for choosing fashion over law, he battled alcoholism and depression - and had four major eye operations.

For 5 Minutes On, he talks to the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Media Editor, Amol Rajan, about his life - both in Ghana as a child and in the UK - and his upcoming autobiography, 'A Visible Man'. They discuss his quest to bring diversity to the fashion industry, coming out as gay as a Ghanaian, the story behind the Duchess of Sussex's special edition - and whether he wants to take over from Anna Wintour, when she retires from American Vogue. "I don't wake up thinking, I'm here to change the world," he says. "But I wake up thinking, maybe I can make the world a better place by just reflecting my idea of what the world should be".
