The council wants the city to become the first place in the UK to impose a nightly charge for people visiting. They say the money raised will be used to tackle the noise, mess and anti-social behaviour that some tourists might cause.

So with the annual Edinburgh Festival now underway, how is a surge in visitors impacting on the lives of residents and property owners?
