Polar bear killed after attacking tourist in Norway
Have you ever dreamed of seeing a wild polar bear? Well, tourists in the remote archipelago of Svalbard which is halfway between Norway and the North Pole, had a close call when one of the animals attacked their camp.
A French tourist who was injured is stable but the animal was killed as a result and the story is now sparking a debate about how to keep both people and the bears safe.
At least five people have been killed by polar bears in the area since the 1970s.
"The residents here are rightly very upset about the killing of one of their precious polar bears. They've been a protected species here since 1973."
We spoke to Norwegian journalist, filmmaker and resident of Svalbard, Jannicke Mikkelsen.
