Phase One
Phase One is the raw recollection of anticipatory grief in the lead-up to losing a parent and the goodbye that follows. It explores denial, uncertainty, anger and sadness. From the struggle of getting a diagnosis to the move into the local hospice, this spoken word piece explores the taboos surrounding loss and the powerful love between a mother and daughter.
Suzanne developed Phase One when she was seventeen and grieving the loss of her mum. Scribbling down her thoughts in a poetic form helped her to make sense of some of the events that happened during that time. Later on it allowed her to sit in her grief and think beyond what happened within the hospital walls, and instead focus on the treasured moments she shared with her mum and sister.
