Ukraine war: The tech at the heart of the battle for Slovyansk
The city of Slovyansk in east Ukraine is a key target for the Russians in the battle for the Donbas. Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ correspondent Jonathan Beale has spent time with the Ukrainian units preparing to defend the city. They say that traditional weaponry will be deployed, but drones and electronic warfare are also used to track Russian forces and jam their devices. Drones have been essential in spotting enemy positions and directing artillery. Drones or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have been used widely in other wars, but not on this scale, and they're key weapons for both Russia and Ukraine. The soldiers who form Dnipro 1's drone intelligence unit are volunteers. Most of them have a background in information technology, and knew each other before the war started.
