Ukraine war: Russia struggles to find army recruits
Russia's army is allegedly finding it hard to recruit more men after the war's early months haven't delivered the results that the Kremlin had hoped for.
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Sunday that Russia was likely to intensify its offensive.Β It's been nearly four months since the war started and according to reports Russia is allegedly finding it hard to recruit more men as the war's early months haven't delivered the results that Russia had hoped, despite the Kremlin maintaining that everything is going to plan.
Mary Ilyshina, a journalist who has been looking at what is happening with the numbers of those recruited by Russia, explains the steps the army is taking to encourage more people to sign up, and why many may remain reluctant to do so. She says there's been widespread effort to encourage men to enlist, as there is no official mobilisation, with promises of attractive salaries and contracts.
"People are not being physically pressured, but there is a psychological effort to present this as the honourable thing to do."
