What do we know about monkeypox and how can it be treated?

Monkeypox is a rare viral infection most common in remote parts of Central and West Africa. The disease, first found in monkeys, does not tend to spread easily between people but can be transmitted through close physical contact, including sexual intercourse. Cases of monkeypox have been identified across Europe, Australia and the US, and most recently in the UAE - the first Gulf State to report an infection.

Professor Manfred Green, a medical doctor and professor of epidemiology in the School of Public Health at the University of Haifa in Israel. He explains what monkeypox is and how it spreads. He notes that this is the West African strain, which is milder than the Central African strain, and no deaths have been reported.
