How will Netflix tackle first drop in subscribers in a decade?

Some 200,000 people have left the streaming service Netflix in the first three months of 2022 as it faced intense competition from rivals, and it has warned that another two million subscribers were likely to leave in the three months to July.

Entertainment journalist Caroline Frost says that many people's budgets are being squeezed by rising prices. She believes Netflix may consider advertising on the platform, but only as a last result as it's something subscribers are not used to. She thinks that they may instead be looking at more co-productions and better value bundles, to ensure they keep up their revenues and the flow of original content. She says that new services such as Paramount Plus will find it even harder to survive.
