Minecraft - saving our city from flooding
Can video games help raise awareness and find solutions to flooding? The Environment Agency is running a pilot scheme in Preston to find out.
In 2015, huge parts of the country were hit by torrential rain and severe winds as Storm Desmond tore through the UK. Widespread flooding across Northern England and elsewhere caused long-lasting damage. Preston, in Lancashire, was one of those areas. Now, the Environment Agency is running a pilot scheme in the city to see how video games can help raise awareness and find solutions to flooding. If the scheme is successful then more projects could be rolled out in other parts of England. Pupils at Archbishop Temple Church of England High School have been testing specially-themed Minecraft mini-games built to replicate their local flood defences. For 5 Minutes On, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Gaming Reporter, Steffan Powell, went to meet them.
