Dozens of checkpoints and hundreds of miles - my 15-hour journey to safety
For days now Zhanna and her colleagues have been trying to do their job - informing Ukrainians about the Russian invasion of their country. But they're no longer safe.
Ukraine is Zhanna Bezpiatchuk's home. She was born in Kyiv and has lived and worked there most of her life. But home is no longer safe. Zhanna is a Correspondent for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s Ukrainian Service - and with thousands of Russian tanks and soldiers on the outskirts of Kyiv, she and her colleagues have taken the heart-breaking decision to leave their homes. They're heading west, to Lviv, where it is - at least for now - a little safer than Kyiv. It’s normally a journey that would take around 4 hours - but with dozens of checkpoints and many other unknowns along the way, it'll take them closer to 15 hours to complete the journey. And for 5 Minutes On, she's taking us along the way.
