Ukraine conflict: Berlin volunteers step up to welcome refugees

More than one million civilians have fled Ukraine, according to the UN. High numbers of Ukrainian refugees have arrived at the main station in the German capital, Berlin, where they were greeted by police and volunteers offering help, and these have been increasing over the last three days.

A volunteer describes how she had been communicating with others on social networks to find out what was needed, and how accommodation and transport for the people arriving from Ukraine is being offered. Damian Grammaticus describes how what started as a small group of volunteers has now taken on more of an official structure to cope with the increasing influx.

"We have a room free at the moment. I have a car, so it's something easy I can do."
